LUSH is an international cosmetics brand that claims to make all of their products by hand and with natural components (instead of using all of those blahblahblahdroxide products you see on the ingredients list of many products from most big name cosmetics brands today. You can read their story here and view their US Website here. They are one of few companies that openly fight against animal testing and will donate 100% of proceeds (from certain products, mind you) to local charities. I would highly encourage all of you to go take a look at their products and think about trying some of it on your own.
Immediately, I will apologize for the quality of the photos. Lighting in my house isn't all that great. You will all have to bear with me until I can afford something better. But anyway... back to the face mask:
As I expected, when I opened the packaging, the product itself didn't smell very good. It smelled like salad that had been left out for a couple of days (though I promise I had just purchased the mask that day, and on the day they received their new shipment no less). I had come to expect this kind of reaction from LUSH's products as I knew it was made with real lettuce. I suppose if you're using fresh products, you can only do so much about the smell of lettuce.
I won't lie though, I was a little scared to try this one because it didn't have the same smooth texture that the other face masks I had previously tried did (such as Cupcake). Regardless, I took the plunge and rubbed the green, gritty paste all over my face. It had the oddest texture, it was grainy and hard to spread around my face and get an even coat (it almost felt like a terribly blended smoothie was on my face).
The mask itself dried very fast (it began to feel stiff after two minutes or so), which made me break out later that week and my nose began to peel immediately after removing the mask. However, I will give it some credit! This mask worked wonders on my complexion and it made my face look and feel so smooth! All in all, it isn't my personal favorite, but I will probably purchase and use this mask again.
About the Product
What is Love Lettuce?
Love Lettuce is our exfoliating ground almond mask that scoops up dirt, oil and debris and washes it all away. Exfoliation is an important part of good skincare, as it removes the buildup of dead skin that can clog your pores and cause impurities. Love Lettuce is a great example of how just a few ingredients can make a fresh, effective product for the skin. We blend calming French lavender oil with seaweed and honey to nourish and soften skin, and to balance oily T-zones.*
